Background:
If I can’t take my students to visit a Nuclear Reactor, I will bring the Nuclear Reactor to them (literally a few millimeters from their eyeballs)!
Earlier this year I have embarked in a new project: creating virtual reality assets to support my new “Introduction to nuclear engineering” course (MECH485) at Stephen J. R. Smith Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen’s University. What begun with just a tiny idea spawn into a multi-level large-scale project with lots of opportunites to stretch the limits of engineering education.
Nothing would have been possible without the help and hard-work of 2 incredible people: Michael Chabot (Extended Reality Developer at ETLT) and Oneil Hermez (VR specialist - summer intern). They brought their AMAZING skills, ideas, and creativity to the table and made all of this an incredibly fun experience.
Over the past week we have completed our fist pilot with 3 outstanding volunteers. Take a look at the amazing teaser (SPOILER alert for those enrolled in MECH485!) that Justin Holland (Digital Media Producer at ETLT) put together!!
